Italy programme:
Students and teachers from different countries had the opportunity to focus their attention to places, where water is life and beauty. In Pachino, Sicily, the Natural Reserve of Vendicari and its features were presented through crosscultural tasks, compiled by Italian teachers. The following aspects were taken into account: history, environmental issues, archaeological and architectural aspects, Greek-Roman medicine (healing herbs for example thyme, rosemary, juniper bushes, etc), art (exhibition of nature reserves and the biodiversity in the world), English language (girlboystorytelling while visiting Vendicari Reserve, Marzamemi and Noto), and the educational activity of robotics. The activities were carried out with the following means: interviews, videos, autonomous research, flipped classroom, guide tourist experience, collecting pictures about flora and fauna in various countries and establishing an exhibition on them. The results of the activities were many. The students' awareness of preserving water and nature in general was increased. It was established how protecting the ecosystem and biodiversity must be maintained. The most relevant priorities were the establishing European cooperation, creating common solutions to global water issues and observing that the students were very sensitive to global issues like preservation and safeguard of water. The participants were not only the students and teachers from the countries and schools involved in the project, but also other students and teachers from Pachino "S. Pellico" -school and "V. Brancati" -school. The students, during their school lessons, focused their attention on living and continuing living on earth where water is a fundamental element, but with some fear, because of the rapid growth of the population, climate change and industrialization. |
